Neymar scored two goals as Paris Saint-Germain claimed a 2 – 0 victory over Lille to extend their lead at the top of Ligue 1 to 10 points.

Having opened the scoring with an amazing strike in the 28th minute of Sunday’s encounter at Stade Pierre-Mauroy, Neymar doubled his score with a penalty early in the second half.

After netting his 2nd goal, the Brazilian superstar appeared to pay tribute to Los Angeles Lakers legend Kobe Bryant, who was reported to have died in a helicopter crash on Sunday.

Lille felt harshly treated by the VAR for PSG’s second goal, though they were fortunate Mauro Icardi and Kylian Mbappe missed big chances to increase the visitors’ lead as their 14-match unbeaten home league run came to an end.

Luiz Araujo’s long-range effort forced Keylor Navas into a save nine minutes in as Lille started pretty strong.

But, a moment of brilliance from Neymar gave PSG the lead, the Brazilian star combining with Marco Verratti before curling the ball into the top-right corner.

Mbappe could have made it 2-0 if not for Gabriel’s block, but Lille might have been level had Presnel Kimpembe not got a toe to Victor Osimhen’s shot.

With Tanguy Kouassi having denied Osimhen a tap-in, Mike Maignan made a brave stop to keep out Mbappe at the other end moments later. PSG were awarded a penalty for a handball by Reinildo. Lille’s frustration was founed by the VAR not deeming there to have been a foul by Idrissa Gueye in the build-up, before Neymar squeezed the penalty beyond Lille’s goalie.

Icardi could have done better with a poor header and Mbappe failed to score as PSG looked to add to their lead, but the visitors settled for a two-goal lead, while Loic Remy saw a stoppage-time consolation disallowed for offside.

Rivaldo: “Cavani would be magnificent for Barcelona”

Barcelona’s legend feels the experienced Uruguayan striker could be the answer for La Liga champions as they seek to bring in another goalscorer.

Edinson Cavani would be “a magnificent improvement for Barcelona’s attack”, says Rivaldo, as Blaugrana are urged to join in on the race for the Paris Saint-Germain striker now that Luis Suarez is injured.

The reigning Liga champions find themselves without a proven striker after seeing the Uruguayan international struck with a serious knee injury, and it could be that they turn to a fellow countryman of Suarez for replacement.

Cavani is looking for a way out of PSG in this winter transfer window and has seen various destinations mooted. Atletico Madrid are considered to be leading the chase when it comes to Spanish acquisitors, but Barca may be tempted to join the hunt if they feel that the 32-year-old could helpt their cause.

Legendary Rivaldo thinks serious consideration should be given to making a move, with the Camp Nou icon telling Betfair: “Cavani would be a magnificent improvement for Barcelona’s attack now that Suarez is out for quite some time.”

“After all, Cavani is a top forward who has always got his goals in Europe’s top leagues. In his case it seems he’s really close to leaving PSG and it would be a very good opportunity.”

The French midfielder will become a free agent this summer and could end up making a move to either Italy or England.

Paris Saint-Germain contract rebel Adrien Rabiot has admitted to having held talks with the Italian club – Juventus, while a door has been left open for a potential transfer to Manchester United. If you are a big sports fan, you could use up all your knowledge and dive into Sportsbetting, guessing the outcome of PSG’s, Juventus’s and Man Utd’s matches this summer. As things stand, the France international midfielder will be available for a free transfer in the summer having refused to commit to a new contract with the Ligue 1 title-holders.

That move has led to him to be tossed out of the Parc des Princes, with no appearances made since December 11th, 2018.

Rabiot is, however, a proven football player at the highest level who definitely has the potential for future improvement at just 24 years of age. He represents an attractive proposition to big sides all across Europe and has seen various landing spots marked.

It could be that his next move takes him to the Apennine Peninsula or England, with Serie A champions Juventus FC and Manchester United being heavily interested, and having made formal approaches. Rabiot has told Corriere dello Sport about his current situation: “I’ve spoken with Juventus, it’s a great club where everyone would like to play. I like Italy so much, it’s wonderful here. A demanding season awaits me. At Juventus? Juve watched me and we talked about it, but I can’t say anything. Manchester United? It’s the same as last year, I have to decide. I’m on vacation for now. Soon you will know.”

Rabiot’s switch to Old Trafford has been intensively talked up for some time. Another English giant, Arsenal, have also been credited with an interest in taking him to British football. The two Premier League contenders may, however, have to make quick moves if they have any hope of getting an agreement in place, as Juventus hold great appeal to any player as the dominant force in the Italian and European game.

They have already acquired Wales international Aaron Ramsey from Arsenal to enforce their midfield options, but are obviously in the search for more players of Rabiot’s competence.

The young Frenchman has got a big decision to make this summer after seeing his career stall in Paris. Rabiot, who has made a short stay at Manchester City’s academy system while in his teen years, has been at PSG since 2010 and made 227 competitive appearances for the club.

The team that didn’t qualify

Ciro Immobile, the well-travelled Italy international will not be setting the world alight at the 2018 World Cup. Due to the current way in which teams qualify for the tournament, Italy didn’t qualify whereas other weaker teams such as Panama are seemingly there just to make up the numbers.

Immobile scored an astounding 29 goals in 33 league games for Lazio this season, making him one of the best strikers in the world right now. Another player not making the tournament is Gareth Bale. Bale scored potentially the best goal in UEFA Champions League Final history with an overhead kick to break Liverpool hearts and because Wales weren’t able to qualify for the tournament he’s got to sit at home to watch.

Immobile and Bale aren’t alone, they are part of a super strong starting 11 of players who aren’t at the tournament and you have to think with this plethora of stars not making the cut, France odds to win world cup have shot up.

To see the strongest starting 11 of players whose teams didn’t make the tournament have a look at the infographic we have put together below.

Neymar unhappy with Lucas Moura’s departure

The 25 year old superstar, Neymar Jr., said that he is saddened by Lucas Moura’s move to Tottenham, insisting that his Brazilian counterpart was underused at Paris Saint-Germain. Asked about Lucas’ departure from the French capital, Neymar admitted that he didn’t believe his “good friend” had been treated fairly.

“I’m sad, because he’s a good friend, he’s a quality player who was rarely used. I think it’s very unfair. He is my brother in football. I wish him the best. Whatever the destination, I hope he will score a lot and he will return to the Brazilian national team.”

“He’s not just a friend, he’s a very good guy. Here he could have been used a lot more but I’m not the owner of the team, not the owner of Paris. For me, he should never have left Paris.”

In the past few weeks it has been quite obvious that Neymar was trying to express his true thoughts and feelings about being at PSG. All of these incidents sturred up some rumours about a possible gigantic and shocking transfer to Real Madrid.

Judging by how the football transfer world works nowadays, we can’t say this option is impossible, especially knowing that the Spanish giants will probably go on a huge shopping frenzy on the end of this season.

PSG are visiting Lille this weekend with a significantly weakened team. Kylian Mbappe and Thiago Motta are injured, while Dani Alves is suspended after receiving a red card in the match played against Lyon.
